In Summer 2023, I had the privilege of serving as an Orientation Advisor at Roger Williams University. Over the course of the program, I worked closely with incoming students, most of whom were making the transition directly from high school to college life. My role was to help them feel welcome, informed, and excited about their new journey.
Guiding the Next Generation
The position required strong communication skills and adaptability. Every group of students had different concerns and personalities, and I learned to quickly adjust my approach to meet their needs. I collaborated closely with fellow Orientation Advisors and university staff to address challenges on the spot, keeping sessions running smoothly and maintaining an inclusive environment for all.
Recognition of Leadership & Service
One of the most rewarding aspects was witnessing students grow more confident throughout the day. Many arrived nervous and unsure, but by the time they left, they were chatting with peers, exploring campus with excitement, and feeling ready to begin their college experience.
Serving as an Orientation Advisor reinforced my passion for fostering community, guiding others through new experiences, and being as welcoming as possible. It was a summer of teamwork, leadership, and connection that I’ll carry forward into every role I take on.
