Since 2022, I’ve served as the treasurer of the Roger Williams University chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), where I’ve worked to elevate our small chapter through strategic programming, partnerships, and student support. My focus has been on creating meaningful opportunities for professional development while expanding our presence on and off campus.

Professional Development & Programming

I organized station tours to WJAR and WPRI to give students real exposure to broadcast journalism. I also coordinated trips to the SEJ Conference in Philadelphia and the SPJ Regional Conference in Boston, helping members build networks and deepen their understanding of the profession. These efforts reflect my commitment to giving RWU journalism students the experiences and exposure necessary to succeed beyond the classroom.

Mentorship, Career Support & Advocacy

I launched a mentorship program that connects current students with RWU alumni and media professionals. I’ve supported multiple students in securing internships through résumé coaching, networking, and application feedback. I also helped position our chapter as an advocate for free speech in Rhode Island by participating in public programs like From Shelf to Flames with EveryLibrary RI.

Innovation & Collaborative Engagement

I co-founded The Capsized Tribune, an independent student-led digital newsroom, where I manage our website and social media channels. I also helped SPJ form a partnership with the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), a campus organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ awareness and inclusion, to co‑host media-related events and campaigns addressing LGBT visibility in journalism and representation issues in media .

My tenure as SPJ treasurer has been defined by leadership, creativity, and a deep commitment to professional and civic engagement. As I move into my third year, I’m proud to continue building community, expanding student opportunities, and advocating for open dialogue and inclusion in journalism and beyond.
